Why He Became A Writer:Louis Sachar got fired from the
 warehouse and went to law school.He continued to write stories for 
children after he graduated from law school.
How Long He Spends on Writing: He Writes Everyday No Longer Than 2 Hours 
Why He Wrote “Holes”:He wrote four more drafts in the next year—
the longest he's worked on any of his books. The idea for Holes came from
 the Texas heat. ... "I came up with this place—Camp Green Lake in Texas—
that was so 
hot even the 
lake dried up," Sachar said. He decided to make Camp Green Lake a camp for 
juvenile delinquents.
How He Grew Up:Sachar graduated from college and law school, but at
 the same time began writing children's books. He began his full-time writing
 career in 1989 Inspired by the grade school students he worked with in college, 
Sachar also created the series Sideways Stories from 
Wayside School.
